About this Set

Why a set?
Consecutive numbers tell a coherent visual story. Displayed together, they transform any wall into an archive of global artistic exchange. Individual pieces are available separately; sets of this scale are rare.

A complete sequential set of thirty-five original works — BRAIN CELL No. 1071 through No. 1105 — by Ryosuke Cohen, the foundational figure of Japanese mail art.

■ BRAIN CELL: A Cosmos of Knowledge

Running continuously since 1985, the project sees Cohen assemble fragments contributed by artists worldwide into layered compositions. Each sheet materialises a network of global creative exchange — a visible map of art's capacity to connect across borders and languages.

■ World's First Official Sale · Exceptional Rarity

BRAIN CELL prints have historically circulated exclusively as gifts among participating artists and were never offered for commercial sale. Each issue is limited to fifty impressions, the majority distributed internationally to contributing artists — making cohesive sequential sets exceptionally rare. This offering represents the world's first official commercial sale of the series, undertaken with the direct collaboration of the artist. It is a museum-grade acquisition.

■ Artist Value

Cohen began his practice in the 1980s alongside Shozo Shimamoto of the Gutai Art Association. His sustained commitment to art as a vehicle for peace drew the attention of Bern Porter — physicist, peace activist, and former Nobel Prize committee member — who formally nominated Cohen for the Nobel Peace Prize. His work operates at the intersection of artistic practice and humanitarian vision.

Thirty-five consecutive works in sequence: an overwhelming procession of colour and image that carries the viewer through a borderless landscape of global artistic exchange.
