■ Curator's Note
A complete sketchbook from 2026, comprising 17 original pages in vivid crayon — flowers, butterflies, birds, hearts, and abstract forms unfold in sequence. The sketchbook as form is itself the work: 17 originals experienced as a single, coherent object. Turning each page opens a new chapter of the artist's world.
■ About the Artist
Alexandre IMAI (今井アレクサンドル, born 1959, Paris) is a contemporary artist born to Toshimitsu Imai — a leading figure of Japanese Art Informel — and an Austrian mother. Raised in Paris, he moved to England after high school, where he studied under renowned photographer David Bailey. Since the 1980s he has pursued live painting and art direction for commercial spaces.
His awards include the Encouragement Prize at the Shinobazo Object Exhibition (1989), the Taro Okamoto Prize (1991), the Silver Prize at the Furusato no Fuji Grand Prix Exhibition (1993), and a comprehensive award representing Japan at the 4th Sharjah Biennial, UAE (1999).
Working across canvas, paper, and sketchbook, Imai returns repeatedly to motifs of butterflies, crosses, hearts, flowers, and abstract forms. Intuitive yet deliberate, his line and colour give each work a singular presence.
