MONKNORI — A Tokyo Collage Artist of Magazine Fragments

MONKNORI
Tokyo — Collage / Mixed MediaMONKNORI is a Tokyo-based collage and mixed-media artist known for the 1PAGE series — compositions built from fragments of fashion and lifestyle magazine pages, combined with acrylic paint.
The appeal of the 1PAGE works lies in their restraint. Each piece occupies approximately A4 in scale, yet contains an internally coherent visual world. Torn headlines, faces, typographic fragments and paint are layered with precision, creating images that feel simultaneously familiar and displaced. Fashion becomes archaeology; advertising becomes poetry.
The 1PAGE Monochrome sub-series strips colour from the palette entirely, revealing the underlying geometry of each composition. The Package Works series shifts to wax oil pastel and ink, taking everyday consumer packaging as its subject — warmer in tone, but equally precise.
Since her solo debut in 2011, MONKNORI has exhibited at THE blank GALLERY (Harajuku), Gallery NIW (Edogawabashi), and 3331 Arts Chiyoda, among others.
