The Package Works series takes everyday consumer packaging — wrappers, labels, commercial ephemera — as its raw material, worked in wax oil pastel and ink on paper. MONKNORI finds warmth and wit in the overlooked surfaces of daily consumption.
The smallest Package Work and perhaps its most concentrated. The strawberry as graphic subject — its redness, its form, its associations — is absorbed into MONKNORI's pastel and ink handling.
■ About the Artist
MONKNORI is a Tokyo-based collage and mixed-media artist best known for the 1PAGE series — compositions built from fragments of vintage fashion and lifestyle magazines, combined with acrylic paint. Since her solo debut in 2011, she has exhibited at THE blank GALLERY (Harajuku), Gallery NIW (Edogawabashi), and 3331 Arts Chiyoda. Awards include the Nika Exhibition Design Section Encouragement Award (1986), selections in THE CHOICE (2006, 2009), and the Nishiwaki Samuhole Grand Prix Exhibition (2017).
