■ Curator's Note
The 1PAGE Monochrome series strips colour from MONKNORI's signature collage practice. Without the distraction of hue, the structural logic of each composition — contrast, texture, the tension between printed fragment and painted surface — becomes the primary subject.
French slang for 'crazy'. Within the Monochrome series' studied restraint, the energy named in the title is not absent — it is redirected into the compression and density of a black-and-white graphic field.
■ About the Artist
MONKNORI is a Tokyo-based collage and mixed-media artist best known for the 1PAGE series — compositions built from fragments of vintage fashion and lifestyle magazines, combined with acrylic paint. Since her solo debut in 2011, she has exhibited at THE blank GALLERY (Harajuku), Gallery NIW (Edogawabashi), and 3331 Arts Chiyoda. Awards include the Nika Exhibition Design Section Encouragement Award (1986), selections in THE CHOICE (2006, 2009), and the Nishiwaki Samuhole Grand Prix Exhibition (2017).
