Jean-Michel Basquiat Born in 1960. (1960-1988) An American artist who was born in the United States in 1960 and died at the young age of 27, considered one of the important masters of 20th century art. At the age of 8, he was involved in a car accident and had his spleen removed. While in the hospital, his mother gave him a book called "Grey's Anatomy," which left a deep impression on Basquiat and led to his later anatomical drawings. In 1980, he participated in the group exhibition "Time Square Show" in New York. There, he officially exhibited his works for the first time, and in 1981, he participated in the "New York New Wave" exhibition with Keith Haring and Andy Warhol, attracting the attention of many galleries. Basquiat also visited Japan frequently during his lifetime and held solo and group exhibitions. He left behind over 3,000 drawings and over 1,000 paintings during his short 10-year career, and died on August 12, 1988, at the age of 27, from acute drug poisoning. Basquiat's existence became widely known in Japan in 2016, largely due to the influence of "Untitled (Skull)," which was purchased by Yusaku Maezawa for $57 million (6.24 billion yen at the time). This price was a record auction price for Basquiat at the time. It was then put up for auction in May 2022, and sold for $85 million (11 billion yen at the time). Accessories: string
