Andy Warhol Born in 1928. (1928-1987) Known as a leading figure in the Pop Art movement, he expressed the relationship between fine art, celebrity culture, and advertising in the 1960s. He was a rare example of someone who made a name for himself as a commercial illustrator before moving to fine art. He is one of the most controversial artists in American contemporary art. He began exhibiting fine art solo in the 1950s. He exhibited at the Hugo Gallery and Bodley Gallery in New York, and his first solo exhibition in California was held on July 9, 1962 at the Ferus Gallery in Los Angeles. At this time, he displayed 32 canvases depicting Campbell's Soup Cans. This exhibition is considered his debut as a pop artist on the West Coast. The Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Warhol's hometown, has a vast collection of Warhol's works and archives. It is the largest museum of an individual artist in the United States.
